i am looking to buy a lens in the ultra wide zoom range, after reading many reviews on the net, i have been lead to believe the tokina 12-24mm is a good, relativeley cheap option . I would be interested to know if anyone can confirm or defirm (not sure thats a word) this.
many thanks Jack
PS i am hooting on a 1.6 crop factor

Hi Jack, i'm firmly a big fan of the Sigma 10-20mm. Its Ultra-Mega-Superduper-wide and my sample is pretty sharp edge to edge. Though i believe sample variation is high.
Some samples.

Hi Jack,
I have the sigma 12-24mm and I'm not happy, really regret buying it, especially because it can't take filters, soft as **** to.
The tokina reads a good buy.

Hi Tim, the 10-20 also takes 77mm filters which is handy as alot of my lenses take them :)

Jack - I have the Tokina 12-24 in nikon fit and I cant fault it.
I tried the Nikon, Sigma and Tokina and I was suprised to find the Tokina suffered with least edge CA.
It's tack sharp and a cracker of a lens imo
