Last stop on my Southwest Loop was Capitol Reef. Martres' book says that the campground is rarely full. Hah! Its full the whole month of September and they don't take reservations. But if you stay at the campground, this would have been your next door neighbor.

Further south on the scenic drive, you'd find the more colorful layers of the reef exposed.
This is such a nice place. The orchards are very nice at different times of the spring/summer. And it seems that the canyon offer alot of opportunity to explore. We'll definitely be heading back.

I think the barn photo is awesome! And the second ain't too shabby either. Looks like a nice way to the end the trip.

Hey Mel,
Nice shots and I agree about the campground. I was there a few weekends ago (going to post a few pics soon) and it was full. I have been there in October and have been able to camp there, though.
#1 is fantastic, Mel. I've driven through there several times on the way to other locations, but never had the time to stop and explore it much - just a high-speed fly-by of sorts.
So, I guess camping out in the barn was out of the question?

Well I don't suppose anyone would have noticed our tent inside the barn. But truth be told, we were glad to be forced to get a room a the motel with a hot shower and a bed after camping for 6 days.
Nice work, Mel. I especially like the #1. How about the Cathedral Valley? Did you make it?

No Gabi, unfortunately I didn't make it to Cathedral Valley. We just ran out of time on this trip. I also drove by Goblin Valley desperately wanting to stop. We'll just have to go back.

Great shots, Mel, especially the barn.
Capitol Reef is one of my “must-see” destinations that I still have not been able to visit.
