I have been trying to be patient and wait for the San Juan colors to really kick in, especially along Dallas Divide/Sneffels range area. I am targeting this weekend or next. But I haven't heard any reports since some early goers went about a week ago said it was still really 'Green.'
Hopefully all this wind won't take down those leaves just waiting to turn.

Derek - I am planning on heading down here this weekend. If the colors are good I will definitely stick around. Otherwise, I will probably drive somewhere else.

I'll be making the entire loop of the skyway this weekend (yurt booked in Ridgway Fri and Sat nights). Hopefully somewhere in that grand circle there will be something still around.
I meant to post an update this past weekend but got way to busy to do so... anyway here is a shot from County Rd 7 (I think...) Many more shots of the San Juans and Owl Creek Pass on my website: Recent Images Just look for 9/27/07. It was my first time down south for fall colors...although it was only for a few days...i look forward to next year :)
I'm leaving Wednesday and will be hitting the Dallas Divide,Telluride, Kebler,McClure Pass areas and will return probably Tuesday. I'll be in a silver 2003 4-runner with a Yakima rack on top.

I'm heading out Friday through Monday, planning on hitting the Lake city, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride areas and either coming home via Dolores-Durango or maybe McClure/Kebler - basically wherever the whim and color takes me.
I'll be in a white '91 Ford F-150. I'll be on the lookout for RMNPers. Good luck everyone!

Derek, don't tempt me dude! I think I will be hitting somewhere Front Range-ish so I can hit the Photographers Gallery Friday night. Then maybe Golden Gate SP or RMNP. Is there any color left up that way after the winds we have had?

I have been to McClure, Owl Creek and Dallas Divide in the last couple of days.
They were all a big disappointment. There are green aspens, lime green aspens,
leafless aspens, dead aspens, sick colored aspens, and extremely poor colored oak brush. It doesn't look like the cottonwood trees along the rivers are going to be up to much I honestly can't remember the last year when color was this poor. The snow on the San Juans was very nice. It is definitely the season for "intimate landscape pictures". The best pictures that I have found this season were on the north side of Grand Mesa around Mesa Lakes over 2 weeks ago. Little did I know then that the yellow-gold-red hunting
would be so tough.Today I went to Pinion Mesa south of the Colorado National Monument. It was equally disappointing.

Hmmm... think I'll just go to Micheals or Hobby Lobby and shoot the fall color inside the stores Bummer though.
