Well, it's with very mixed feelings that Jennifer and I have made the decision to move to Portland, Oregon. Jennifer is taking advantage of a great opportunity to pursue environmental work in the National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, and other federal lands. I was able to land a great gig staying within GE in Salem, OR. Two great opportunities at the same time convinced us it was time to make the move to a city that we both love - great climate, great photography and great wines!
It will no doubt be difficult to leave a place that, despite our proclivity for rain and inclement weather, has given us so much enjoyment. And while the CO landscape will surely be missed, it is the increased distance from our friends that will be most difficult to reconcile. Those who know me well know that I'm more on the introverted side of the equation than the extroverted side, but the friends that I've made through CNP and RMNP have tugged me away from the latter and more towards the former, and I genuinely consider myself a better person for having the good fortune to have found such quality people to share my time with.
I'll be heading to Portland in late October but will continue to stay involved with RMNP until moderator duties can be transitioned successfully. And I'm sure that autumn will bring us back for Kebler gatherings and the remarkable splendor of Colorado in fall.
I'm sure I'll be posting here even after the move, but it seems appropriate to say thank you to everyone who has made CNP and RMNP such a fun and rewarding experience. Thank you!

Congrats on the opportunity, Rick. Life is an adventure, enjoy your new phase.
We'll miss your moderation (when you transition) but I know I will look forward to seeing you on the forum, especially your images and critiques.
Best of luck and don't be a stranger!

Hey Rick, I'd like to echo Kalin's sentiments. You have been a terrific moderator and will be missed but, that is the nice thing about forums; you can be a thousand miles from CO yet only a mouse click away! Best wishes to both of you in your new endeavors. Drop by and say high now and then.
John
Sounds like an exciting opportunity for both of you! Best of luck on your move and transitioning to new jobs. Maybe we can do a group-travel-get-together in Oregon some day!
It's too bad we weren't able to hook-up on FR 265 last weekend, I didn't get a clear view of you as you drove by either time but I did wonder if maybe you were a photographer I knew from RMNP! I'll keep my eyes open for your gold Tundra this week.

Rick,
That is both awesome and sad news as of course you will be missed. I was wondering when you would get the news of the the two potential job offers. It sounds like both organizations know a good thing when they see it. Congratulations!
Please stay in touch. We would love to hear about your adventures in travel and move to the PNW, a place Laura and I are considered in our future as well.
And if you miss the snow this winter you won't have to go far to find it - Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, etc...
Hey Rick--best of luck! I have a lot of ties to the PNW, so may be joining you at some point. Hope to keep hearing from you and seeing your awesome photos!

Best wishes, Rick. I used to travel to Portland fairly often for work and loved it. Thanks for all of your work as moderator!
So you got enough CO photos and now are going to work on your Northwest Collection?? Best wishes in you upcoming move and thanks for your endless labor moderating this band of ruffians!!!
Getting out before the beetle takes its toll. Mind if I join you? Rick, congratulations on the move and new opportunities. You will be missed!!!

Hey Rick, Congrats to you and Jennifer on the new opportunities!
Thank you for all the time and effort put into RMNP. You're an important asset to this community and your skills will be missed!
I look forward to hearing about your adventures and seeing new images! Be well and best of luck, my good friend!

Rick,
Portland is certainly a nice town, but the rain... I give you three months.
All kidding aside, you've done alot for RMNP and will be missed. Hope the move goes well. I'm sure that you'll enjoy all that Oregon and Washington have to offer.
I wish you the best of luck up there. You will have a killer time shooting new images and discovering new shooting locations.
Cant wait to hear about your new adventures and see your new shots. Make sure to post em down here.

Congratulations and best of luck to you and your wife in your new endeavors.
Thank you for everything you have contributed to the forum. You will definitely be missed around here.
Regarding all that rain, just remember – bad weather makes for great shooting!
BTW - Since you are moving to OR, will probably hang out at the PACNW forum, as well. If we post a location/shooting question I hope you’ll be one to [actually] respond to our queries.

We'll miss you here, Rick. However, you should be excited about Portland. It is a very well planned city with great community and great landscapes not far away. I have several friends that have moved from Denver to Portland and love it. Finally, thanks for being the moderator. You did a great job.

Thanks for your kindness in helping me get started with RMNP. This is a great group of poeple. Good luck, and have fun finding new photo ops.

Good luck with the move Rick. And a big thanks for all your work as moderator! You will have to go up there and give Adamus and company a run for their money with your images!!

Good luck to both of you. Sally and I look forward to seeing your photos of the Pacific NW. Thank you for the time and effort you have put into RMNP.

Rick -
Good luck with the move and the new job! You'll be missed.
I have heard great things about Portland.
If you didn't already know it moving is a pain - I am still getting orgainized after about a year.
Thanks for your ongoing hard work...We'll definitely miss you here, Rick!
All the best,

It is a sad day indeed to think of a Colorado without Rick Dunn in it. But what a remarkable destination! Can't wait to see what your masterful eye makes of living in what might be the only other outdoor paradise outside of Colorado I'd ever consider moving to.
Posted by Joshua Hardin on October 3, 2007 at 2:42 PM
Good luck Rick. We will miss you as a moderator here but don't be a stranger to posting. Congrats on the opportunity and get some killer images in the PNW.

Congrats on lining everything up for Portland! I haven't spent much time there but I know a few people who have lived there and loved it. That is exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing your photos from out there.
Rick,
Best of luck to you and Jennifer even though I have not posted a lot I appreciate your kindness. You and yours will be successful where ever you go.
Posted by Chris Ebright on October 3, 2007 at 3:25 PM
Good luck Rick! Sad to see you go, but if you're gonna leave Colorado for somewhere, Oregon ain't a bad direction to go! Hope to see you out here again some fall. And thanks again for one last round of jerky! mmmm....jerky!
Thank you everyone for your kind and encouraging words - they mean a great deal to me.
As odd as it may seem, the climate in Oregon - meterologically (as well as socially) - is right up our alley; we both LOVE rain. I'll definintely miss the Colorado landscape, but I'll shed no tears over leaving behind this incessant sunshine!
I will MOST DEFINITELY remain a regular here, and when "Waterfalls" comes around as a monthly theme, I am going to be ALL over that!
Hate to see you leave, Rick, but life is an adventure! Best wishes to you and Jennifer in this new chapter.
As so many others have said, if you must leave Colorado, you could land in a lot of worse places than Portland. Don't know about the wine there, but it's a beer-lover's heaven.
Opportunites are God's way of telling that he has more fun in store for you! Congrats and safe journey, you have done verywell and will never be a former RMNP / CNP member, rather a Lifetime Member and Friend.

Best luck, and thanks for all you have done for RMNP/CNP.
Congrats and I wish you success on your new move! You did a fantastic job here on the forum, Rick. Thanks for all the hard work. I look forward to seeing your work from your new locale real soon.

Rick: Congratulations, and good luck on the move. I've been more of a lurker of late and I have not had the chance to meet you guys but would like to thank you for all your hard work around the forum. Maybe we need to get a RMNP outing over to the hwy 121 'Rick Dunn Overlook' and toast all your hard work with a couple of cases of Fat Tire, then place a bronze plaque in your recognition of your hardwork. Of course that's an early morning local which may create a problem. Bloody Mary's?. Thanks again

Wow, moving from one photogenic area to another, you lucky dog. We here in the NW will be happy to have another fantastic and talented photographer. I'm sure you'll love it here, I know I do.
Well I'm said to see you are leaving but at least I got to meet you a few times! Thanks for being a great moderator and keep those photos coming!

Rick - as you can see, you've made quite an impression on all of us over the past several years, both as a great forum moderator and an all-around great guy - who can also make great photographs! Though you'll be missed "in person" I join the others in hoping we'll hear from you on a regular basis. Here's wishing you and Jennifer all the best in your move and the exciting changes ahead. Cheers to you both!

Thanks Rick for all of your work, we are all (can you tell ) gonna miss you!
Best of luck to you and Jennifer on this new and exciting journey. It takes courage to launch a big move and Portland should provide a soft landing. Thanks for all you've done here so the rest of us can sit back and look at pretty pictures. I hope to look you up when I'm in town sometime - maybe take a trip up the Gorge?

Hey Rick, just got back from my fall trip. So I am just catching the online announcement. What a wonderful opportunity all around! Thank you for your service and involvement on this forum for many years!
Rick, I've never met you, but all of the replies say you're as good a person as you are photographer (and that's pretty darned good). I've enjoyed this forum, and your keeping it active has helped me learn lots. Good luck!

Congrats on your new opportunity. You'll have a lot of great new photographic territory to explore.
Thanks so much for all your time and effort moderating the forum.
