I just made a very quick and too simple survey. I took the last twenty photographers that posted in the floral forum who uses Nikon or Canon cameras. Well, 16 shoot Canon and only 4 shoot Nikon!
I am a nikonist, I have been very surprised. Do you think there is a reason for this very high preference for Canon of floral, or perhaps natural, photographers?
Thanks very much for the help in understanding.

Gigi, I suppose that simply mirrors the marketplace, where, for better or worse, Canon dominates. Either brand (OK, Sony too ) is great stuff.

Hey Gigi, Canon seems to be the biggest player with the most money to promote their products, I'm really happy with the Fuji Pro Camera S5, and I think that if you have the skills for composition and the tecnical end of the camera, you'll be fine with any of the brands.

Um...Pentax isn't too shabby!!

It doesn't matter what brand, Gigi...it's the photographer behind the camera that counts!

OK, Pentax too.

This could go on, well, forever. We should all become as good as the potential of our equipment, regardless of that equipment. I know I'm not there yet.

Twenty years ago, when I bought my first auto-focus camera, I chose Nikon. It was the only brand that would still accept its own manual focus lenses. I remember seeing at the time an ad that said 93% of professional photographers used Nikon.

Later I noticed that when the brand of camera was mentioned with a nature photo, it often was Canon.

Recently I saw a poll on another nature photography website. About two thirds of respondents used Canon, about one quarter used Nikon, and the remainder used other brands.

When I switched from Nikon to Canon, it was because Canon offered lenses that Nikon did not, and Canon seemed, to me at the time, to be more advanced in developing digital SLR bodies. I think a lot of people have switched from Nikon to Canon for the same or similar reasons. I think it's more common to find people who have moved to Canon from Nikon than vice versa.

Nikon vs Canon = Ford vs. Chevy = Coke vs Pepsi
