Goldcrest, Dowley Gap (Sewage Works)Bingley West Yorkshire, January 2007.

Hi everyone.

Techs: 20D and 400mm 5.6 and x2 tele. 250th at F14.The the end of the day. Blasted with flash, the ambient light was giving less than a 50th - just enough light for me to track and focus. This only a quarter of the frame. Used a tripod. Best of 3 frames.

ps I am a huge fan of the 400/5.6 - the more practice the better it gets  John

Well captured John though the flash is perhaps a little heavy. A little PS work would improve the balance. Who said the 2xTC was a let down?

I desperately need something like this John...............a super shot of this little chap :toast:

Full flash seems to be becoming a 'blast from the past', but its worked very effectively here, thanks to the nearby foliage being illuminated a similar amount, and also breaking-up/disguising any flash shadows.

Impressive quality from such a crop {maybe needs a touch of frame replaced on the RHS for my taste  }.

Hi John

A difficult species to get and you nailed this one - great DOF, sharpness and exposure. A tad central and big in the frame for my taste but both very minor nits and easily corrected if desired!

Would love to get such a nice shot of this species.
Looks like you well and truelly overcame the less than ideal conditions and got a fine result for your effort.
