Hi All,
Can anyone shed some light as to why the background in this image looks like it does (ie pixelated and a brown blob??), not had any probs processing my other KF shots (around 100)all with same BG.
There is only a very slight dark area on the RAW, but some how during PP it has magnified and become a hell of a lot more apprarent.
I'm a stumped any help would be good.
Regards
Rob
PS it is virtually full frame so not a big crop, just cropped for composition.

There's a definite partial circle infront of the beak that I can see Rob and yep, that brown OoF bit does look odd - send me the CR2 file
Are you using CamRaw to import or another prog like CapOne, and does it look like this as a full size 16bit TIFF or has this just happened on compression to jpeg?
This is a cracking capture though - great action shot

It wasn't the BG that attracted my attention, it was the olympic fish in the bottom of the frame!
Hi Rob there will be 2 or 3 things contributing to the effect one is lens design, canon design their long lenses to have a large amount of spherical aberration after the focus point which gives you the smooth background, sometimes this can have a negative effect depending on the aperture and focus distance and any bright objects in that distance, that is the explanation for the brown bob possibly, as for the pixelated area I would imagine that has something to do with the converter you are using/colour space / Gammet sometimes 16-bit doesn't really compress well to 8bit.
