Moab Fall Color Has Begun!
Well, at least it has in the La Sals. I've never spent much time in the La Sals and after today, I'm convinced I've been missing ALOT. Here's one from a very productive day of photography in 30 degree temperatures high above the Spanish Valley.

1Ds MKII, 100-400mm lens, polarizer

Holy hell, compression is killing this one. Oh well.

Sweet shot – I love the layers. I bet that looks gorgeous as a large print. :toast:

…can’t wait for the weather to cool down a bit for some desert shooting.

"compression is killing this one."

I'll bet it is, but it's still purdy!

How about the cottonwoods etc. in the canyons?

Some of the cottonwoods in higher canyons have changed nicely but almost all of them around town and in Arches are still 95% green. Seems like they're changing later this year but maybe not...

This looks like an oil painting. :toast:

Beautiful shot! Very artistic.

Beautiful comp. Yeah, spend more time there! :)

I think this wonderful color image is even more focused/effective if you crop off the evergreen in the upper left.

Super comp Bret. This screams fall color.

I'm surfing RMNP at lunch to admire all the beautiful autumn shots from the Rockies (since trees here haven't started turning just yet) and saw this shot. Wow! I love the contrast of the aspen trunks with the bright colors, and those punches of green really add some contrast. Absolutely beautiful composition. The only distraction I see is that tiny dark tree or trunk in the upper left which you could probably clone or crop out. You definitely need to spend more time in the La Sals - have fun!

This is killer, Bret. I tried some similar shots last year, but didn't come away with anything as compelling as this. Great eye! I like Jesse's suggestion of doing something with the conifer.

30-degree temps....mmmmmmm.
