I know, enough already, but I had to go out tonight just to see if these darn mushrooms really did glow at night, and I had to bring my camera with me. I sat quietly in the dark, in the middle of the giant patch of mushrooms, and none of them were glowing. Nary a single candle power was seen. But something odd was going on - the mushrooms were steaming! (it had just rained) So there I sat, surrounded by steaming mushrooms in the dark, and I don't even like mushrooms. And then it began to rain again lightly. So what else could I do but get up and grab the camera and a flashlight (and an umbrella for the camera) and take a few photos, including the backlit one linked below.

I was making 30 second exposures and then had to sit in the dark and wait for the 30 second dark-slide exposure to complete. Just about the time I was ready to go I happened to look up and around me while waiting for the last dark slide, and son of a gun, there were GLOWING mushrooms all around me! I had to look really close to see them, but sure enough, the edges of them were glowing ever so faintly, and there were a hundred of them glowing at me. It probably would have taken an hour exposure or longer to capture anything so I did not try, but it was enough knowing I got to see them do their thing.

That must be an incredible sensor to turn out images like this from a 30" exposure. The color is so vivid and noise-free. Beautiful...

WOW beautiful image Tim. The colors of red and orange and the line patterns show the beauty of nature.
