Not in my wildest Willy Wonka fantasy did I ever imagine what I would find in the forest on my latest excursion. Acres upon acres of aspen trees with leaves made of chocolate!!! I spent most of an afternoon picking selective leaves and downing them with a glass of milk drawn from a nearby dairy stream. I'm already the only person I know who can go on a multi-day road trip where I'm generally deprived of the kinds of creature comforts of home and come back weighing more than when I left. This is really gonna cause some problems on that front!
Oh, and before anyone asks, no I will not tell you where the chocolate forest grows.

BTW, Kebler still looks pretty good on the west end, probably will through this weekend to some extent. The setting sun helped to enrich the colors here.

That second image is great. Not that I was going to ask where but more like, is it all milk chocolate or is there a mix of dark in there too?

I love that second image. Beautiful!

Scotch and chocolate go together pretty well, too.

Hmmm... Chocolate Aspens, aka Turd Blossoms. The second shot is sweet... I think you just inspired me to head up that way again!

Todd – yup we saw the Chocolate Aspens as well on our way home from the San Juans. You could say the colors "flew by at night"! Too bad you didn’t get down there a bit quicker. Except for a little rain on Saturday, the clouds and weather were spectacular over the weekend. We even ran into John Fielder at Sunrise on Sunday (…well he ran into us with his class, unfortunately after the good light was already gone).

Interesting aspens. I don't know whether to be happy or sad.
Love the Kebler shot. A Denver based photog that I was talking to Saturday night on Dallas Divide told me Kebler was done; leaves were gone. So I changed some plans - DOH! He didn't look like a crackhead!

Dang! I skipped Kebler on my way home thinking it was not going to be happening yet after having seen it on Wednesday with so many green groves. I guess that cold front really got the aspen's attention! What color!!!

Thats it. I'm out "sick" for the rest of the week.
The kebler shot is really nice Todd.

The Kebler shot rocks Todd. I like the colors and saturation.

Very, very nice. The west side of Kebler was very healthy this year. A perfect example!
