Taken a few hours ago (Thursday, 10/11) in Phantom Canyon. I took my wife on a little road trip today, going up Shelf Road to Cripple Creek, lunch, then returned via Phantom Canyon. Color is clearly past peak around Cripple Creek and the upper portions of both roads, but I found some pretty remarkable color, both in aspens and cottonwoods, down lower. The light sucked, so I was relegated to finding these brilliant cottonwoods in the shadows of the canyon's narrows, but that works for me when all else fails.

I like it Todd, the colors and the nice shape the tops of the trees form!

Brilliant color! Makes me want to visit, but I'm back to work for another week yet.

Really pretty, Todd. The contrast seems a little low. Didn't know a Phantom Canyon existed. Cool name, cool photo!

I wondered if it was still worth going down there. Maybe I can make time.
I like the light on the rock walls too!

Beautiful shot. BTW, how were the oak colors in the canyon?

There was some nice scrub oak color, bright red, but spotty. Most was a very rich reddish-brown. If this weekend's storm brings some cloudy conditions, could be nice. I might return.

I don't think this would have worked in other than shade. Nice colors!

Nice shot Todd! I guess I should have kept heading down Canyon last weekend. Might try again this weekend.

Very nice colors in the trees, and they bring out the color in the canyon walls as well which gives the scene a comfortable, cohesive feel. I like!
