National Creek Falls
National Creek Falls is on a tributary to the upper Rogue River. This location is just a few miles up the road from the Rogue Gorge image I recently posted in ESS.

Anyway, the light was really rangey down in the canyon, so this is a blend of two exposures and then lots of various dodging, burning and luminosity work to bring it to this point. While the image is much improved over the original RAW, I'm not sure I have it nailed. I'm concerned I have taken it too far for its own good. I'd love to hear first impressions and suggestions.

Canon 5D, 16-35mm L, Gitzo tripod, lots of PS fiddling.

PS - Jeremy and Rick, I took this on the drive home after seeing you guys at Sparks Lake. Great to finally meet after admiring your work on NPN. Perhaps I'll have to make it up north for an outting with y'all. Anyone norhterners wanting to shoot in southern Oregon, feel free to drop me a line.

Sweet! Great choice of shutter speed here, the water is really nice. Also the details in the background are really stunning. Some of the moss looks a bit too bright for the scene, maybe burn those in a tad. Really nice none the less.

Definitely will give you a call this winter. I just picked up a sweet new 4 season tent I'm ichn' to use. I'm sure it'd come in handy around Crater lake this year. I just checked out your portfolio....very impressive body of work.

Good call Jeremy on dodging around the falls. That is precisely one of the things that was bugging me. I think it is much improved. Thanks!

I think it's much improved also. I've a little bit of a problem with the back falls. They seem kind of hot and aren't very photogenic. That was my first impression when I first opened the image. They kind of reminds me of Englishman falls around Astoria which has the same flow and I have never captured anything I like from there.

Sean,
It was great to meet you too! We'll definitely (sp?) have to meet up and do shoots up here and down there.

Beautiful shot/comp. Looks hard to work this scene, and you did a pretty good job here. I like the first one with more light on the moss, but either one will work.

Nice shot, Sean - among the best I've seen of this falls. Great foreground composition, and I like that you included a full view of that curved spine of rock that forms the left wall around the falls. It really adds depth and interest to the image. Definitely the second version, too!

Looks like a nice place to visit. It's cool how you captured some of the mist at the base of the falls; it shows how fast the water's flowing.
