Virginia Creek
As Preston and I wandered around for a few days during our Lee Vining visit recently, we both shot this small view of the lower Virginia Creek on one of those days. The weather was a bit challenging the days I was in the area, but it seemed to clear up right after I left.....

Pretty little scene! The east side sure is a fun place to hang out.

Looks to me like this might have a bit of a green cast. My color eye ain't too hot, so take it for what my comment is worth.

Hey Paul,

This is a very nice scene, a classic rendition of what can be found in the eastern Sierra. I like the comp and depth here as it's nice to follow the stream all the way up through the frame. I even like the rock-fall on the left - another typical part of this part of the country.

I do see the green that Harley is talking about, but for me it's primarily along the fringes of the silky water in the pool of the foreground. One thing I thought when I first viewed it was the nice golden reflections on the creek. So perhaps some localized color correction in the pool.

A great scene that I no doubt would have been attracted to as well.

Glad to see your trip was worthwhile!

Harley & Lon, thank you for your review and ideas. I do see the green cast you have mentioned. I have made some slight global changes and to the local area you pointed out Lon. I think it is an improvement over the first post with regard to the green. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Our two Subarus parked right there on Friday night of the big snowstorm. During late afternoon snow squalls we hiked a long ways down the creek. About 6 inches fell in just a few hours before ending around 10pm. We were becoming afraid it would not stop snowing until it was too deep to drive out of. The next morning twas 18 degrees. We drove off in the epic conditions and made the most of it. Will have to wait a couple days before my film returns.

Wish we could have linked up again this fall. ...David

A colorful scene no doubt. I do agree about the water seems to be suffering from a lack of scanner dynamic range or something. the 2nd version is better than the first though.

Hi David, I think Preston and I hit this spot just a few days before the storm dumped while you were in this area. Sorry we missed you. I was on a tight schedule and caught a quick afternoon with Preston, Lon, and Dan in Lee Vining Canyon too.

Hi Paul,

This is nice. I like the reworked version, too. I still have to send in my film, since I got home only yesterday (10/15).

It was great to see you, as always!

Nice one Paul! I think the second version is a little "cleaner" too.

Hi Paul,

I love the composition - it has a nice flow and balance. However, I find the color in the shadows specially to be a troubling. Not sure what to suggest though.
