Wouldnt mind having a go at some red deer shots as I am going to the New Forest for some autumn landscapes. Can anyone recommend me a place to go for some red deer? I know absolutely nothing about wildlife so I would be grateful of any help....?
Any tips on how to photograph them?

My advice would be to forget about the wild deer and go to a deer park where they're used to people. The NPN meet at Richmond Park would be a good introduction for you. Even with park deer, I find a very long lens (equivanlent to 800mm on 35mm) is often very useful as they generally don't like being approached too closely. Remember that the best photos come from animals which are relaxed and acting naturally and that no photograph is worth stressing an animal for.
