Bradgate Stag
Hi to all,

Red Deer stag , photographed in Bradgate park yesterday morning , weather conditions weren't the best , very damp and overcast , so none of that lovely golden mist that I've seen in recent posts.

Levels , Usm( 100,0.5,1 x2 ) Contrast , slight Sat , S/h , crop for comp.

Canon 40D , 500F4IS , Gitzo 1325 , Wimberley v2
1/160th @ F5 iso400 jpeg

All comments welcome

Kind regards

is it me, or is there a rather strong magenta cast to the picture. Might wanna redo the WB.

I like the image, but as above poster mentions the WB seems a little "off" on my monitor too.

As said above, the WB is too cool but that's a easy fix. Very nice pose. It's a shame that the BG isn't more naturalistic but I know from bitter experience that the Bradgate stags rarely co-operate in that respect

Thanks for the comments guys

This was the real first chance I had to get to grips with my new 40D , never had any White Balance problems with my 20D before so a little more practice is in order I think , the learning curve continues

Kind regards

Blue/magenta cast aside, its a classic portrait. Nice and sharp in dull conditions. Don't know if it helps, but I leave my cameras on Daylight (5200K) so I always have a fairly accurate rendition of the true state of light. I can then decide to warm it or cool it slightly. I found that when I shot on Auto, I would come to process the image weeks later and forget what the conditions were really like. :toast: :wavey:
