Zion Valley View - Take 2
Well, I'll try this shot again. This is a view of the Zion Valley floor from the Kayenta trail at sunset. This is blended from 3 versions of one raw exposure. I had used a 3 stop hard and 2 stop soft GND to make this exposure in camera, but it almost blacked out the wall on the left. Since I had to work on that anyways, I decided that I may as well optimize all of the other segments of the photo in the process. Unfortunately, there was not a cloud to be found in the sky for most of our stay at Zion, but I think the moon added some interest.

NIce job of creatively solving the exposure problem and thanks for sharing your solution. The serpentine river with reflection is sweet.

Great shot Mel! My mouth is watering...I will be out there an entire week at the end of this month.

You got any more?

I certainly do Rene. I haven't quite figured out how to process some of the images yet, so I'll be adding them slowly.

I'm jealous of your timing for the trip. I would have enjoyed the fall colors there and definitely would have enjoyed a week there, except for our crappy tent site. Site C3 at the Watchman campground sucks.

Yeah, some clouds would have been nice, but the comp is strong enough that the image works really well without any. The reflected light in the river brings a nice balance to the image.

I'll trade you a day in my cube for a night in C3!

Be careful what you ask for Rick. I'm serious that it was probably the worst NPS campsite ever. At least you can sleep in your cubicle.

Nice photo Mel. It looks a bit cold on my sRGB monitor, but otherwise very nice. Keep them coming.

Nice photo. I took one from about the same place back in the spring and mine didn't come out near as nice as yours. The rock walls were blown out. I may go back and try tripple processing the raw file like you did.
