Portland Arboretum early morning 2 days ago... before the rain

20D and Sigma 10-20mm (wish it was an 8mm lens for this one)

That's almost surreal, John - did you adjust the perspective on this to bring all the pieces together? The focus and detail in the foreground is amazing!

Tom, thanks !! No I didn't do any perspective fix - I used my Gitzo 2220 Explore tripod with the arm extended about as low as it could go. I had to lay on my stomach to line the shot up but I tried to shoot as straight on as possible. This was 0.6 seconds at f/16 and I had the lens on hyperfocal so that it would be as sharp as possible.

Glad ya like !!

Cool! I really need to practice that sort of thing a bit more. I've noticed that I'm bringing home out-of-focus foregrounds a bit too often this year from to large an f-stop. Very frustrating when that happens. So I've never heard of "hyperfocal"...? Is that a Canon proprietary setting?

Great perspective, the work paid off. Get any funny looks from bystanders while laying on the ground  ?

Stunning image John! The Aspen here in Colo. are nice, but it's the maples that make me wish I was back in the PNW.

I'm not sure if Tom K. is asking his question re: hyperfocal distance factiously or not, but I'll assume he's serious. Forgive me if that's an incorrect assumption.

The hyperfocal distance is the distance beyond which all objects are acceptably sharp, for a lens focused at infinity. Check it out on wikipedia - it's an interesting topic.

This is a very nice image. The foreground leads me right into rerst of the image. I can see why you would want 8mm because it is a little tight around the tree.

Great job, and great color. Perfect little leaf in front. Only nit for me would be less bright sky between branches. :jump: :jump:

Man I dig those vobrandt colors in the tree! Decent shot, but as my bro said, it does feel too tight.

Yea, I was stuck between using the leafs or pulling back - if I pulled back there would have been all this green at the bottom of the shot, so this is what I ended up with.....
