This intimate scene was found along Lone Pine Creek between the Alabama Hills and the base of the Sierra on October 14.

I will be sending my 4x5's for processing this week, so I thought I'd post a few digitally captured images in the interim.

I had a grand time on the East Side for 15 days! It was great to see fellow CANPers over in the Mono Basin country: we had a good time! The wind was a real hindrance on this trip, so my crop of 4x5's is less than in years past. That said; it is always a wonderfully exciting place, regardless of the lack of LF photography opportunities.

It is good to be home again.

Your comments are always appreciated!

Welcome Back Preston! Hope you got home and took a shower!

It was a grand time meeting with you and all the other NPNr's that weekend, despite the wind. The snow was a different story... I was glad for that. BTW, after I left you at the Mobile station, I just barely made it to the top of the grade before I stopped and pulled out the camera. I'll post that image soon. I stopped a couple more times and it took me 3 1/2 hours to get over 120! I had fun, but didn't get home til 10:30...

Anyway.... love this image! Hope you got it on 4x5 too! The leaves are really nice filling in around the rocks, but it's the texture, colors and arrangement of the rocks that I really love about this tight little scene. You might consider a slight crop from the top to cut out the darkest areas, but it certainly does not cause me any distractions. This is a great image.

Look forward to seeing some images when you get your film back. Hope you're settled in after that long vacation.

Wow. Those rocks look like a container of sorts for the leaves.

Love this shot, Preston. It looks as though the leaves are funneling through this rock & water hopper toward the very narrow outlet at the bottom. A nice little detail to the scene is the arrow look by the configuration of the rocks & leaves pointing the way out at the bottom. Very nicely seen and captured. It was a real pleasure linking up again this year before the weather got carried away on us. I wish I could have stayed longer, but overall it never seems to be enough time out there. Otherwise for me it was a real great time as always.

Preston, I love it. Very nice arrangement, and the texture of the stones and color are excellent.

This really is up my alley Preston. That V shape is such a strong graphical design element and the gathering of the leaves from different paths has some good symbolism. Very nice and I bet that tranny is going to be impressive.

Well seen, wonderful arrangement of rocks, love the color in the leaves and rocks, a little tighter on the top works for me, too. :toast:

Wow, Preston. This is just sublime. I love the dark darks and the overall sheen. Masterfully composed too.

Thanks so much for your comments, everyone!

I did make a 4x5 of this composition but movement of the leaves in the water coupled with a 2 second exposure may render it un-usable. We'll see.

Lon: You wrote "...and took a shower! Are you saying that I stink, or something? I spent one night in a hotel in Bishop after being severly windblown in Bishop Creek. The shower was great!

I was actually just walking along the creek and not thinking about photography when this little scene jumped out at me. So, I had to trot back to camp to grab my stuff. It was worth it.

Thanks again, everyone,

This is a great image, Preston. What kind of digital camera do you have?

Dan,

Thanks for the compliment! I am going to work it a bit and see if I can pull a nice 8x10 print out of it.

I have an old Olympus C-3000 P&S; 3 Mpx max in tiff format. I can't afford one of them new-fangled digi snappers with 6 speeds forward, 2 in reverse, and dual zoom-i-fyin' fine tuners.
