FWIW -
I am not big on speculating when new cameras come out or what features they might possess. However, I am curious about what Canon is going to do about a replacement for the 5D – because I want one!!!
Doing a little research on the internet - looks like Canon just created a new UPC code for a product called "Canon EOS 7D" (created or updated today Oct 17th, 2007)
...would be nice to see one under the Christmas tree.

Hey, I've had my 7D since June. Where have you been?

Interesting information. Although even if Canon announced a 5D replacement today I doubt they'd have it available by Christmas. The 1Ds Mk III which they announced in August won't even be available until next month. I think we all hope for a nice Christmas gift like a 7D but I wouldn't count on getting one so soon.

LOL ...
Don't get me started! I have been waiting patiently or not so patiently for the 5D II or 7D or whatever it will be called for a long time now.
There are a lot of speculation threads I have been following of the 5D forum on DPReview with a grain of salt. Some of the posters can be very hostile there. But the posts can sometimes be interesting.
I am hoping for first quarter 2008 with PMA. But some say it is more likely to show up third quarter at Photokina.
I guess only time will tell.

What, no 6D?

No, 7 is a luckier number than 6, Todd--think "Motel 6"
If they come out with the 7D before Xmas ill scream, cause i agonized my recent 5D purchase, knowing the inevitability of an 'upgrade'. But after the last two announcements i knew i could wait no longer. Of course, now i'm of the "dont listen to the rumors--just get out and shoot" crowd!

I've been watching the 5D prices fall on a weekly basis for the last three months. The 5D is now $2199 on Amazon and B&H. Along with the fact that it is now the oldest model in the EOS line, it really seems like an update announcement could come at any time (though release around PMA next spring would make sense). After seeing the 14 bit images from the 40D I definitely think the 5D successor will be my first full frame digital SLR.

Well here is more interesting speculation and hype
...I am only giving this some credibility since shortly after the 1Ds M3 the and the 40D were listed in the UPC database, they were in fact announced by Canon.

Bob Atkins has one of the best summaries I have seen:
