Knot Roost
This is to show the scale of RSPB Snettersham Knot roost when it is in full flow. It is a bit pot luck as to whether they show but if you pick the tides right you stand a better chance.

Thats crazy

Was it very noisy aswell ?

Yes, they didn't settle at all! But the normal noise was nothing compared to when they lifted, they actually left all at once when a sparrowhawk flew over and that was 30 minutes after high tide, 40 minutes after sunrise hence the ISO setting

Hmmmm so are we going to be viewing a shot of all that lot in-flight in the future

Must of been awesome to see all of them

Nope, it was unexpected as they normally drip out in small flocks much later. I had the 600mm on that that time and all I could see was grey and as I was on single focus it couldn't get a lock-on.

It was a wonderful sight but a bit fustrating as we had been in the hide 4 hours at point and had to stay another 1.5 hours until the Oyster Catchers left... still thats wildlife photography.

Wow, now that is a lot of birds. Nice, shame about the wait though.

Paul,

You have to be in the hide about 2.5 hours before they are due and must stay in until the OC's have left which is usually about 1.5 hours after high water - so the wait is unavoidable.

Amazing, just to see this must be worth the wait etc...

Hi Tom,

Excellent shot, The wait is always worth it if what you are waiting for shows!! Normally with Wildlife, you wait all day, just for a no show

Hi Tom,
The images you and Danny created at Snettisham, and I'm referring to the photography and not the result of being cramped together in a small hide  are just extraordinary and along with the recent fox image that Phil Shaw posted represent some of the best creative and technical excellence I've seen for some time. Quite outstanding.
