This photo was made on the morning of Oct 12 as a storm was approaching. The light was magical! Unfortunately, it was too windy for a 4x5 shot, so I settled for this digital capture.
A fine look at this wonderful place, Preston. I like how the clouds allowed us a good look still at the main peaks in the scene, both Lone Pine and Whitney of course. Excellent color and detail in the entire image, especially the FG. It would have been great for the old 4x5 on this one. I guess that is why I still haul my MF around for windy days like this. I would have missed many shots in DVNP last year if I had not taken my MF along on that trip.
Looking forward to your 4x5 shots coming up too.

Ahhhh, Preston, well done, a great place to shoot from; you've captured many fine images from this general location
This is a great shot, Preston. I can't wait to get out here at some point.

Wow... this is really nice. Moody, and great detail. I really like it.

I like how dreary this looks. That is similar to my mood for missing fall colors this year.

Preston,
Judging by the format, I automatically thought 4x5. Not only is the detail and clarity great (considering all there is to consider about the web...) , this is very, very nice. I like this scene leaning towards the cooler side, with splashes of warmth. This is put together perfectly Buddy... great comp.
Guess we'll have to wait for Christmas for the film stuff eh?

An impressive sight, Preston. The light is magical and adds so much to the mood. Having just returned from the Eastern Sierra I can really appreciate the beauty and harshness of the surroundings.
Thanks so much for you comments everyone! I have a special affinity for the Mount Whitney region as it saw some of my early climbing experiences back in 1963. One of the attributes of the area is the immediacy of the mountains: the peaks rise suddenly to great heights from the high desert. The contrast is very striking.
Lon: I sent my film in a few days ago, so maybe by Thanksgiving I'll post some of the 4x5's. Just kidding. I'll get on it as soon as I get the trannies back.
Thanks again, everyone!

This is nice, Preston. I'd work up the contrast and saturation in this.
Thanks, Dan! I'll do that. The color was very muted and at first sight I didn't want to punch the color up too much. However, looking at it again, I see what you mean. Research continues...
