Well I promised myself I wouldnt dip into my Canada trip with a Naturescapes friend, Royce Howland until I had finished a load of other work, but I couldnt resist after getting a serious hang over last night and spending all day paying for it.
This is Medicine Lake in the Rockies. Royce and I walked over from the usual spots for a different outlook one evening because as usual we needed some interesting foreground. So we took the difficult route, clambering over the monster rockpile that covers the right hand side of the lake. After slipping at the waters edge and my Naturetrekker flipping me over leaving me like a beetle unable to get up (!), it started to rain........ We were all ready to bail, it was dull, cloudy but there were a few gaps appearing so Royce convinced us both into staying and I glad that we did.
This is one of a few shots I took right at the end before the walk of pain, slipping and sliding our way back. We couldnt see further than a 10m so we couldnt work out the best routes over the rocks and I repeatedly got myself and Royce into trouble. So, we discussed religion, the universe and laughed a lot as usual.

Well I can certainly understand why it's called Medicine Lake - visual medicine for the soul

This is superb Dave. There is lots going on with the mixture of reflection, detail through the water and movement in the clouds - all adding loads of interest. Is this a single exposure? Tristan
Good looking foreground. I agree with Tom, that you might use cloning tool a bit. But never the less view is impressive, and you did it justice with your photo.
Cheers,
Marko

Cheers all, yes this is a single exposure Tristan, the light leves were low enough no to need any exposure blending.

Would it be better without the "island"? Yes. Is it jaw-droppingly beautiful anyway? Yes too!
Great image David.
