Well we made it back last night from our week in Idaho. We had a blast! played in the snow, buried the truck to it's axel in the mud and had to walk out to main road for help, and got to handle a bunch of antique rifles at Cabella's (I felt like a kid in a candy store!)

Here's the first shot I processed. This guy hangs around the condo complex and get's lots of attention. He's accustomed to human presence, and even curled up and went to sleep outside our condo about an hour after I took this shot.

Wow, good shot! Face is cute but I also like its black sox and bushy tail. Lots of nice detail in this. Thanks for posting, Curtis. Fun to see it.

Great detail!! If this guy were anywhere around me, I'd be out there every day after good shots!

Excellent!

Very cute Curtis. I like the crisp color and detail in the front of the fox. It looks to me that your point of focus was not sufficiently on the fox as there is plenty of sharp focus in the front of him, but his back half is oof.

I was not able to get any EXIF data from the image, so I do not know how much DOF you had based on aperture setting, but it looks to be to nearly focussed in this case.

Thanks for the comments. AJ, I was shooting the 70-200 f4L wide open and focus point was somewhere on his face. He was constantly moving around so I was shooting quickly.

Nice shot, Curtis - super-sharp focus, too. How strange that this guy was somewhat adjusted to humans. I've only seen them disappearing from view!

Superb clarity here Curtis! I have only one image of a fox and I can tell you it was not this close even with my telephoto. Hold on to this one for sure.

Tom and Adrien, I didn't want to get into all the ethics and politics of it so I didn't mention it at first, but he gets fed a lot by the timeshare members. He's been hanging around the complex for years, and his unofficial name is Phillip.

Anyway, that's why he's as "tame" as he is. He's really pretty skittish, which is why I had to take whatever focus point I could get. When we were there 5 years ago I was able to ease up close enough to fill a 35mm frame with him, using a 200mm lens. That's about 6ft if memory serves. At the time he was just lying there watching the world go by with one eye and watching me with the other. I grabbed a couple quick shots and then backed off, as I could tell he was getting a little uncomfortable. I have the scanned slide burried on a CD somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up.
