Hi,
Looks like the Rut in Richmond Park is over... was there this morning and it should have been great given the cold clear night etc, this is in fact one very tired injured stag, that had a good harem two weeks ago, has sustained an bad injury to one eye, so may become a victim of the looming cull (shouldn't really mention that should I )
Nice moody shot Phil...........brilliant,I think the rut is at an end in bushy park also

Thats a nice shot
Are Red deer like Fallow deer, as in most of the year all the stags hang out together. But when its "mating" time they are bitter battles with eachother ?.
Yes but perhaps more so.... Fallows tend to actively chase the females whereas the Reds will gather a harem and will in fact defend it to the end... can be very spectacular...
All the best
Phil

Superb shot!
I was there again yesterday, but I seemed to be followed around by a (word omitted for decency) in a red anorak, who appeared, and chased after the deer with his compact camera, at the least appropriate moment on several occasions!

Nice shot, As for the cull, it is needed. With no predators, and some times limited genetic diversity there is a need for the weaker animals to be removed. Having seen the effect first hand of a stag with a bad head its a necessity.

Hi Phil
Cracking image and nicely processed - I was there on Saturday and got a Fallow in similar light but looking at yours I think I will process mine again!
