Python versus Bee-eater no contest
whilst visiting my second home the Kruger Park back in February, I witnessed something that will stay with me.
I was driving along a road in the north that passes the Pafuri rest camp when I noticed a group of Whitefronted Bee-eaters flying around a dead tree. My first thoughts were that there might be a bees nest in the tree but that could not be further from the truth. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of moment on looking closer I saw the scene in the picture. A python had been in the tree and one of the birds had flown to close allowing the snake to strike.

After lunch the python slithered away and the birds were left to talk about there long lost friend.

I have cloned out a branch in the picture but I just wanted to relay the tale more than anything. Hope you enjoyed.

Hi Dave

A once in a life time experience and to capture the moment a real bonus - fantastic action. I can only assume the Bee-Eater thought the Python was a part of the tree and landed on it or close by. I'll bet he's done that a few times before!

David The python caught the bird in the air. That's what was so incredible the speed of movement. The bird just got to close allowing the strike.
