November is a great month for fog and frost pictures. The leaves are about done and the bare trees make for wonderfully moody images in the fog. Wisps of fog over low valleys as the sun comes up, frost on the cat tails, ice on the water's edge, all kinds of opportunities.

If there is interest, I'll pick a weekend and plan it...

Yesssss! My wife has even noticed that I haven't been shooting lately - well, yeah, I said - I'm always doing some kind of errand on my day off. So this is a great time of year for B&W shots - my fav.

Let me know what y'all are thinkin'.

Curtis, consider Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, call me and we will scout it together. There is the 4 mile drive at the south end, and the 2 mile hike at the north unit.

Jerry, that sounds like a great idea, except that it'll have to be next weekend. I've got a huge honey-do list that I've been neglecting and I need to spend this weekend whittling it down. If you go out there this weekend though, let me know what you find...

I don't have anything planned for November or December. I'm up for it.

Depending on what weekened it ends up falling on, I would be game to come if I can make it.

Great! Let's see, I think the 24th is Turkey Day weekend right? For me that would be the best weekend, but most folks probably have family plans all weekend...?

Jerry suggested Ridgfield NWR. I think that's great option. Does anyone else have a favorite location for fog/frost subjects? I'd even be up for sleeping in the back of my truck if necessary...

Let's try Saturday Nov 10. We'll do Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. I'll post more details this weekend, after I figure out when and where to meet.

Also, I'm planning to try some early morning shots at the Vernonia mill pond (aka Vernonia Lake) this saturday (Nov 3). Lots of Cat Tails, leaves, nekid trees, and some ruins from the old mill. You guys are welcome to join me. I'll be down there about 7:00ish...

Hey folks, sorry I don't have all the details posted yet. The weekend got busy again and work is tapping into my evenings.

However, after looking at the weather forecast, I'm thinking we need to push this back a week. I guess we should have done it this last weekend,

So the revised date is Saturday Nov 17.
We'll meet at 7:00 a.m.
Although I'm not real sure about directions, you should figure about 30 minutes from the Interstate Bridge. I'll post detailed directions as soon as I get them.

I'm interested if the weather cooperates. Will a meeting site at the refuge be chosen? The weather was great today at Nisqually NWR.

yes, I'll get a meeting spot figured out and posted. Work was a nightmare last week and I came home sick late Friday morning. I've been laying around being pathetic all weekend. Feeling better the last couple hours though so I should be in good shape by next Saturday.

The weather turned out pretty good here this weekend also, contrary to the forecast :(

Unfortunately, I'm committed next weekend. However, Ridgefield is a great place to photograph and I wish I could join you. I would suggest those who are able to make it consider bringing handheld walkie talkie type radios and an agreed upon channel. The River S Unit at Ridgefield works best if you use your car as your blind, and trying to communicate between vehicles can disturb the wildlife. With the radios, you can pass info on subjects back and forth with ease. Birders do this all the time on channel 11, subcode 22.

Probably the easiest place to meet is the kiosk at the River S Unit. There are restrooms there, and there is room for parking so that if some want to carpool vehicles can be left behind.

I have the River S Unit added at OutdoorPhotoOp, and it provides links that you may find helpful. In the Additional Resources section there are buttons that link to several types of maps, including Mapquest, Topozone, and Google Earth. If you look at this map, the kiosk is located just west of the marker where the road makes a T.

Gah! My wife has plans for me on the 17th...Is this going to be a 2-day event? I might be able to swing a Sunday.

John, Thanks for the Info!!!
Kevin, I can only make it Saturday morning, then I'm off to help clean up a tree in my parents' backyard. But you guys are certainly allowed to meet without me on Sunday

Folks, let's meet at the kiosk as suggested above by John. Let's meet at 6:30 so we have some time to switch vehicles and/or drive to the trail head before the the light hits. The weather is iffy, but I'm not going to cancel twice. We'll just have to take what we get.

Sunday is "Youth Hunting Day" at the refuge...

Curtis,

I'll probably be there unless I get home really late on Friday night. I hear good things about this place.

Folks, I've been keeping a close eye on the weather, and it's beyond iffy at this point. the last several forecasts I saw/heard call for constant rain on Saturday. I'm already going to spend much of the afternoon in the rain helping my folks clean up thier back yard, and my camera won't stand up to that kind of a soaking.

Bottom line, I'm not going to make it, but I'll leave this up so that the information is easy to find in case you guys still want to meet up.

I'll try this again later into the season.

Sorry... :frown:
