almost good. i think graphically its a bit busy especially foreground, but the main thing i think letting it down is the light. autumn light can be very amazing or it can be flat and cold too, which i think is the case here. hope that's constructive and not upsetting.

Compostionally works well, a bit harsh lighting, but I live round here and I can appreciate that Dartmoor is somewhat an entity unto its own when it comes to drama, you sometimes have to grap what you can. John if you are getting frustrated we'll have to go for a shoot sometime, I live very close to you. Its a really frustrating place, it probably isnt your landscape technique at all. Around 80% of the time I return home with zero.

I think things are most definately on 'the up' Graeme
For me I think you could do with a wider lens

Andy, I don't think any lens would help right now It's only a matter of time before my temperament gets the better of me
Thanks Mark, not too upsetting. I'm a hardened victim now It could be my processing which has made it a bit cold and flat? Possibly lighting was a tad harsh too.
David, I'd jump at the opportunity to come out for a shoot. And sadly I think it may also be my technique as well as my blindness I'll email you and sort out a date that suits us both, Many thanks..and prepare for a shock
Graeme, I find this composition very pleasant and would not complain about it. The light is a bit on harsh side, but I think that more important is, that it looks like you over sharpened the image.
Cheers,
Marko

Hi Marko, the oversharpening is evident where? On the tree branches? It took me hours to select all those branches and on my cruddy crt monitor it looks kind of ok, but appreciate on my LCD it would look oversharpened. Thanks for your comments
The composition works fairly well but it doesnt grab me and really hold my interest. I'd be tempted to use the tree trunk more here - it looks to have great shape but seems a little lost so I'd look for a lower angle to shoot from. Just thoughts - keep them coming! Thanks, Tristan

Hi Graeme
Very nice - I would agree the light is a little harsh!
Its a lot better than I could do, but just a thought how about losing abit from the left to prob 10 by 8 proportions and then doing a moody B/W conversion?

Thanks for the comments. Yeah Phil, I could do a crap B&W too I'll have a go actually.
As a shot illustrating some of Dartmoor's main elements,i.e. the knarled tree, the rocks and the bracken covered landscape, it works very well.
Composition works for me.

You still complaining about that "cruddy monitor"
like every one mate I think it needs a different light on it.

13 repliesPerhaps a bit too much foreground interest on this one???
Really don't get this landscape scape and I know I haven't the eye for it yet....very frustrating
Nice day though but pretty chilly on the Moors
Comments appreciated
