One from this afternoon about an hour before sunset.
I shot nearly 2 cards of this cormorant, which is another 'tick' on my species list.
The low sun angle was playing havoc with the exposure of the face, and of those where the highlights wern't blown there's only a few that show the eye colour.
This one is at full 800mm - there are others with the full reflection at shorter FL's, but I thought I'd post this one first - even though it might be tight for some tastes!
I've set the black and white points but left the warm cast for effect - does it work?

If the weathers good again tomorrow I'll try and get back and find a lower PoV of my home-made ground pod
As always, thanks for looking

The head turn and the light angle work very well in this image. Nice work. I can't see any reason to have the subject smaller in the frame since there is nothing in the background that would add further interest to the image.

Nice image, nothing wrong with it as far as i can see, was this at a reservoir?

Hi Paul - no, same private lake as the fungii, just in between Knutsford and Holmes Chapel. There are currently 2 pairs of cormorants on the lake, but how long they will stay is anyones guess.

Ahh, i have a local reservoir which has good views, but its a fair walk from the car. The 800mm would be just the ticket, as they are a little long on my 500mm, but i'm hoping to get some with the D2 and a TC.

Hi Andy
Nice light, pose and detail - my only small nit is the I too find it a little tight in the frame!

Hi Barrie - yes it is, but it's also possibly the cruelest piece of glass you could buy too, anyone who thinks you can zoom out, aquire your subject and zoom in to compose is sadly mistaken as it won't hold focus, there's no AF limit switch, the 'bokeh' is a bit harsh sometimes, and the thing ways a bloody ton
