Water Shrew Falls
Was hiking through the snow in the Sangres yesterday, and stopped off-trail to take a few photos of this nameless(?) waterfall. WHile i was shooting, i was amazed to see what looked like a jet black 'mouse' scurry effortlessly straight down the center of the falls! Wish i had a huge lens on the camera, since within seconds it dissapeared into the icy water. Very weird. I later checked a field guide--it must have been a "water shrew". Always somthing new to see in the wilderness!

A couple of hours before, sunrise in Westcliffe. It was so cold (had to be near zero) that i burned my finger holding the tripod!

Both of these look bone-chilling!

I've seen those water shrews on the lower part of Mosquito Pass. They look like they're running on the surface of the water. Makes you LOL...
