No sooner did the aspens in the La Sals lose their leaves than the cottonwoods around Moab started to show signs of fall color. Many areas are still completely green but there are plenty of golden trees to be found in the canyons around Moab. I was short on time today so I headed up a canyon 5 minutes from my house, and this is what I found.
I'm heading out again tomorrow and Thursday. I'll post more info on the foliage conditions when time permits.

Man, talk about a blaze of glory! The sooner you let us know about color in Arches NP and surrounding areas, the better.

Thanks, Brett, and I really like this shot - the reds, yellow, and darker colors all combine nicely!

For those interested in a Moab fall color update, here you go:
Cottonwoods in Courthouse Wash are exceptional (peaking) except for in the deeper parts of the canyon. Still almost entirely green there. Almost all the cottonwoods in town are bright yellow, too.
Negro Bill Canyon: Not bad, but still room for improvement. Planning to hike all the way in to see how the poison ivy is looking. If it's anything like what I've seen around here lately it will be bright red and orange.
Kane Creek Canyon: Peaking. Excellent color throughout the canyon.
Moonflower Canyon: Some color but mostly green.
Along the 128: Sections of outrageous color between Sorrel River Ranch and the Dewey Bridge.
Pack Creek: Peaking.
That's it for now. I'm headed out again tomorrow and will post updates as I can.

Bret, nice tree portrait. I think I prefer this one over the one in ES&S.

Those are some blazing yellow colors – sweet! Thanks for the update. Can’t wait to head out to Arches and Canyonlands next month.
