Hi everyone!

Its been a while since I posted, but I just love browsing this site.

Today I received an amazing phone call. I sell stock photos based on 'Industry Standard Rates', which I calculate sales pricing on size, placement, # of issues...

But I've never had a request like this one and I'm looking for advice!

A large Corporation (based in TX) wants to use one (or two) of my scenic images for a promotional ad in Texas as part of their prize drawing and on-premises displays. It would be in many grocery & retail stores, at least 200+ non-Walmarts, may be in Wal-Marts too, & I do not know those numbers yet. It would include several different sizes of usage of the same image (or two) on easel stands 16"x16", 5x7 ads, and 18x24 posters. They will be sending me more specs & info soon, but this is all I know so far.

There is also the possibility of me photographing the prize itself, which I just 'mentioned' to my contact.

Can you send me in the right direction for researching the sales price on multiple and different uses? I want to be fair to both myself and my client.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!
Kathy

try registering as a buyer at one of the big agencies like Corbis or Getty and plug in the numbers you have.
Do you have Fotoquote yet?

Thanks!

I have been checking into Fotoquote.

I am thinking about offering them a quote on buying the copyright outright. It is a scenic sunset photo. I could see myself selling the copyright for a fair price.

It could end up being a nice deal, and I am waiting on my contact to send me more numbers. They are still trying to figure out how many stores, and numbers of each style print ads.

I thought about Corbis, and I think I'll try that too!

Thanks!
Kathy

Why would you offer them the copyright on a such a big project? That's the easy way out. You'd be missing out on some huge royalties from what it sounds like. Regardless, I don't think those calculators are going to give you a good quote for a straight out buy on something like this. I'd just give them the quote for that specific usage, nothing more.

Plus if you sell them the copyright, it's their image and you can no longer use it unless you license if from them. This means you can't make any more money from it either.
If they want a copyright transfer you should be getting big $$$
I highly recommend getting Fotoquote or one of the other price calculators. This sale will probably pay for it several times over.
