Can't Upload Image

I have tried twice, with two different images, on two different days to upload these images, but it will not let me (even tried changing the names). It gives me the error: "Error with your image URL: The address you entered is not a valid JPG file".

I have tried to upload it with and with-out the 'http://' and the 'www.' but nothing works. I know it is valid because I can go to the image (http://www.blueicedesign.net/Creek_bridge.jpg) and see it just fine. The image is 720px on the longest side. I have uploaded an image from this (my) web-space before and it worked fine. I have tried everything that I know how to do and I keep getting the message. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel Moore

Daniel,

I can see your image just fine on your posted URL. It loads slowly so I image that it is greater than 72 DPI.

If you are an NPN member and you are uploading an image to a specific forum, you are right, the image should be no longer than 720px on the longest side. However, I would suggest you save your image for the web and specify that the size be no greater than 199 Kb.

If you are not a member and posting then you need to supply the URL where the image lives.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Carol

Carol,

I tried what you said, I made sure it was under 199k (its now 185k and it is only 72dpi) and tried it again, but I got the same message. I am only linking it...(I'm a poor college student and don't have money for membership :frown: ). In the box that ask for the link I typed in "http://www.blueicedesign.net/Creek_bridge.jpg". I don't know why this is happening. I have posted a different image here before, the same way, and it worked...but now it will not :(.

But Thank You very much for you help.

I don't see why this should happen. Your image loads, is a JPG, and the size seems to be right. If copying the URL from your browser window (when you see the image) into the box doesn't resolve the problem, then I don't know. The website seems to be yours, so make sure you allow remote linking of the images.

Daniel, I tried posting your photo and got the same result. As a test I saved your photo on my website and it posted fine. Make sure there are no scripts running on your server that prevent hot linking.

The photo is displayed in the M&N gallery here.

I tried with a different picture today and it still does not work. I made sure that is was under 200k (185k) and the image is 72dpi. I did check to see if there was any 'hotlink' protection on, but it is disabled. I guess I'm just out of luck. I have no idea why the first one worked, but these three will not.

Your website www.blueicedesign.net has a large robots.txt file. This might be causing problems for the NPN 'bot.

[Edit] The last line in your robots.txt says
Disallow: /
and your image file resides in your root (that is "/") directory.

[Edit 2] Another thing to look at is your .htaccess file.

Mark,

I just deleted the robots.txt file, and my .htaccess file is blank. Then tried it again, but got the same result. I have no idea what to do. Is this happening to everyone? like if you were to put a image on to a website and then try to post it via linking, will it give you the same result...or is it just my web space? I do not own any other web space, so I can not try it :frown: .

Thanks for everyones help!

I was having the same problem and just quit trying to post. Don't know why it accepted my images before with no problem then all of a sudden it didn't work.

Oh well. :frown:

This remains a mystery. I ran a few more tests;

1. I copied the photo to my site and it posted here fine.
2. I tried posting the photo using your URL on another site and it posted fine.
3. I tried posting a few other photos (that reside on other servers) here by hotlinking and they worked fine.

Try creating a folder on your site (like "photos") and place the image there - something like this; http://www.blueicedesign.net/photos/Creek_bridge.jpg

Maybe getting it out of the root directory will help - let me know!

Sorry its taken so long for me to get back with you. I have been really busy with school, and have just got a chance to try it out.

I put the image in a different folder...and it still does not work.

let me know what you think.

I just decided to get a flickr account and try it again. I works great. Just posted two new photos!
