I recently have had difficulty deciding which gallery to post photos in, since the guidelines seem to be narrowly construed in some cases and more broad in others. For example, flora is dominated by floral arrangement shots, rather than any plant, which sometimes shows up in ESS. It seems a bit strange to have an abstract of rocks show up in ESS while an abstract of a plant seemingly should end up in Flora. Then there's M&N which supposedly limits to "limited evidence of the hand of man" yet numerous photos show up that are almost entirely man and little nature. Some might fit well in "environmental photojournalism" (showing the "influence of man" on nature) but that seems to imply more of a journalistic, statement oriented photo. I sort of like the idea of differentiating the galleries, but with the 'anything goes' approach it makes the guidelines irrelevent. What is the consensus on this? Should the gallery guidelines be made more explicit? Stricter? More loose? Im undecided, but it sure can be confusing deciding where to post!

Stan, I think this thread is better suited for the "Hot Topics" forum
My take is to simply post where you feel it is best and leave our trust to the moderators to keep us in line when needed...
Yep, don't worry, just post. Moderators occasionally move posts, that's what they get paid the big bucks for.

The guidelines are just that - guidelines, not strict rules. Sometimes a photo could fit in a number of galleries and in those cases, simply pick the gallery you feel it best fits. If the moderators feel otherwise, they will move it.
In any case, we appreciate everyone's participation!
