I've always had a feeling like there aren't enough great B&W animal photos. Well I stumbled across this gallery by Nick Brandt, who seems to be filling the void. And the pictures are stunning. I wonder if anyone ever asks him if he uses Photoshop?
EDIT : Just an FYI, I've been reading into Nick Brandt a little more. He did an interview with BowHaus that addresses some of the digital work he does. Interestingly perhaps, he doesn't use a digital camera - it's a Pentax 67II. And apparently all of the focus effects are done in camera, with the equivalent of tilt/shift (sometimes manually moving a standard lens off the mount). Only the dodging/burning/curves are PS. (That's not in the interview, but several other sites mentioned it.)
Thanks for posting the link! Great work, now doubt. For my tastes this goes gets a bit too close of what one might call "digital art", but this is great and interesting work nevertheless.

They are all excellent, some of them spectacular but a few too "Photoshopped" for my tastes.

Absolutely stunning images, I think they are just right the way they are. He has a fantastic artistic vision that comes through in his work.

FYI: all of these images can also be found in his book "On This Earth - Photographs from East Africa". At $26 on Amazon, it's a steal.
He apparently prefers to get close to his subjects and doesn't use a telephoto lens!

Incredible images! Thanks for posting the link David!
The images are truly amazing, thanks for the info on technique. I bought his 2005 book On This Earth when it first came out, saw it at Barnes and Noble and HAD to have it. I have spent many hours with it.
Sincerely, Renae

Interesting gallery, thanks for the link. Looks a little too much like advertisements for my tastes (probably a good thing from his perspective!) but the style sure stands out.
