Hi there,
I am trying to make sense of the multitude of battery powered flash heads that are on the market and wanted to hear some real world feedback on the various options before I commit to buy. Essentially I want to set up a small field studio with two/three heads, good recharge times and reasonable portability. I am shooting both digital and film, 35mm and Medium/Large format.
Thanks in advance,
James

Quantum Q-flashes with Turbo battery packs (try the new SC lightweight battery) are about as good as portable strobes can be.
We used Norman for quite a few years, but dumped them when Nikon's got so good. Using the SB-800's today, we haven't missed the Normans. If you need more power, then by all means Quantum has a very good rep these days.
I agrer that you should spend time reading at The Strobist before making a purchase.
