Taken just before dawn on this rugged, beautiful, but remote peninsular of South Harris. Spending the night on this coastline was quite an experience. Critiques most welcome. Tristan

Tristan,

fantastic shot

I think your NW Scotland shots are my favorites as they evoke lots of memories. this one i particularly like with the contrast between the hardness of the rocks and the almost velvety softness of the sea (sorry if that sounds like a chocolate advert). The light and clarity almost makes the sea look like it was painted on afterwards. :toast:

Yeah this is really nice Tristan. Showing me how it's done  I too have enjoyed your Scotland images. Do you need much extra processing like NR for shots at 66secs? What ISO do you use for this?

Love it :toast:

John, thanks, are you familiar with Harris? Graeme - this is shot as 50 iso. Only processing is the rocks have been lightened a little to bring out more detail. No need for noise reduction on this shot - I only find I need it if I'm shooting in darker conditions than this that require longer exposures. In my experience noise can be reasonable up to 15 mins exposure. I find banding in subtle tones such as sky to be a bigger issue. Tristan

Tristan

That is some coastline and this image has certainly done it justice. I love the difference in textures between the sea and the land. To lighten the rocks did you dodge the area or use another layer?

John: I just use the lasso tool and levels for doging and burning (Mr Clapp will cringe). Tristan

Simple but effective - like it a lot and bet the whole trip was an enjoyable experience too judging by some of your comments.

Nicely done Tristran. Wasn't sure about the square crop at first but it's grown on me. Some of the whites look a touch hot, but that might be this monitor, which isn't great - so I'll assume they're fine!

Think this is my fave from your recent shots of the Islands.

This is a classic example of when never to give up even if the weather is overcast. The power, mood and composition all work together very well, the long shutter speed creating some great water swirls. I like the contrast and detail in the rocks especially. It feels fresh and damp typical Scotland. I remain silent about the lasso dodging tomfoolery...
