Not much happening down here, I was hiking in Clifty Falls Park today and the trees are about half green and half yellow very few reds to be seen anywhere. I was hoping that all of these green trees were going to turn, but I don't believe that is going to happen now, most are falling off the trees as we speak with no color.
The water levels that were high last week, are now drying back up again, no rain to be seen in the near future. So I am afraid the news is not good, and fall may pass us by silently with no great photo ops. A park naturalist did tell me he thought we would get more color this weekend and early next week, but I have my doubts.
The image I am posing here is of Tunnel Falls and the cascades that lie in front of it, this was shot last week during the heavy rain we received. So coming down here could be a bust but you never know how things can work out and you might get lucky and things could turn for the better.

Bernie, I really like the way the cascades lead my eye through this image. Nice composition--though given the choice (you may not have had one), I would have moved the foreground branch out of the way.
Looks like you guys might get fall by Thanksgiving .
Bernie, thanks for the report--it's more or less what I was afraid of. I guess I'll pass on the would-be trip from Indy to Madison; colors in this part of central Indiana are better than I would have guessed--not great, but not too bad either. When I was in northern Illinois (until this past Saturday), the colors were approaching peak and the trees that had turned looked very good...but it was a wet summer there and dry as a bone here and points south...and by the time I'm back in the Chicago area (probably a week from today) I'm sure the vast majority of leaves will be down.
BTW, nice shot of Tunnel Falls. I like the lower perspective. When I was there, I shot the falls from up high. How far down the trail from the parking area at Tunnel do you have to go to get down to creek level?
I've only spent part of one day at Clifty--this past April. I was planning on spending the entire day exploring the park but after dealing with an in-and-out sun all morning just as I was setting up a shot of Clifty Falls early in the afternoon I felt a drop of rain...scrambled to get my gear stowed...and then it came down like cats and dogs. I got drenched (gear stayed completely dry) and finally gave up waiting out the rain in the car after nearly an hour's worth of unremitting downpour. What I did see of the park--mostly the area around Hoffman Falls and Tunnel--was very pretty and I hoped to get back for fall color. Looks like I may have to wait for the greenery of spring.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments guys,
David it will probably snow before we get any color.
Kerry if you follow the trail down past the Tunnel at Tunnel Falls you will come to a split in the trail take the one down and you can then hike all around the creek bottoms for the best shots.

Nice shot, Bernie!
I drove down to Kentucky Sunday morning and saw quite a bit of color along US 31/I-65, from about 30 miles north of Indianapolis down to Columbus, IN. The hills between Louisville and Elizabethtown, KY were starting to get some nice color and imagine it won't be long before those hills are ablaze with color. I'll see what they look like when I go back north to Cinci for the weekend, then back to MI on Sunday.
