Not been posting much due to work commitments but have been enjoying everyone elses great pics.
This guy was taken while on holiday in Gran Canaria in the grounds of our hotel. It spent at least 4-5 hours a day in the the same place looking for bugs. Not sure who got the most look from the other sun bathers the bird or the slightly reddish English bloke laying on his belly photographing it!!!!
Great looking bird though

A Hoopoe, a childhood wish for me is to see one of these after seeing them as listed as rare UK visitors in various bird books. You should've given it a Heineken to raise its crest you tight fella you.
Tidy shot
It's also been a wish of mine to photograph one of these,
A lovely image, Did you manage a shot of him with his crest raised????

lovely shot and congrats with a tricky bird, not sure about the colours (the grass doesn't look very green) but then again this isn't calibrated

Hi Kevin,
Nice shot. At least you had no tourist's coming up to you asking what you were doing and flushing the bird!!
Think you could maybe up the saturation a bit to give a bit more punch.

Cracking subject Kevin and a nice comp
Agree with Rob over the increase in saturation though - let's see that plumage in all it's glory
Very nice image, something I've never seen before.

Nice portrait and I really enjoyed the story with it! My nit would be the dark background transition through the subjects head.

Kevin,
Managed to see & photograph one of these in Somerset earlier this year, brilliant bird & very confiding.
This image looks a bit washed out on my (uncalibrated) laptop & perhaps could do with a bit more saturation.
Is this a little better up'ed the saturation and added a small curve.

Hi Kevin,
Re-post has improved the colour no end. I woul;d also give it three rounds of USM at:100,0.2,0

Great shot of a very exotic subject. I like the low viewpoint. The repost with more saturation is definitely better.

I saw one of these in south devon a last year, a really beauty like this one. Of course I couldnt get anywhere near it with my camera, but through a scope it looked very nice like this. They are such busy birds, the one I saw was bouncing around all over the place looking for food. Great shot!

Repost is much better Kevin. I too would love the opportunity to shoot these. Lived in Africa and saw these a plenty....before I was interetsed in photgraphy unfortunately. Cool bird and cool shot
