During my recent western Kansas trip, I finally stood atop this fine state, summiting Mt. Sunflower on a Sunday afternoon :). Located 1/2 mile east of Colorado, Mt. Sunflower rises to an elevation of 4039 feet, and is the highest point in Kansas. There is a small marker at the point, which is in a pasture (fitting I think). This photo looks west/northwest across Kansas into Colorado. I don't know where this log came from, but I used it to add something to the bare foreground. Comments/critiques welcome, thanks for looking.

Interesting story Rob. That's a summit I could do without getting vertigo! Nice expansive view into Colorado, the log is a nice touch. Thanks for sharing!
Rob, this is similar to Iowa's highest location - a hoglot, I believe, in northwest Iowa...

Lucky you didn't get altitude sickness with that ascent! Love the story and the log in the foreground.

You know, it didn't click how out of place that log was until you mentioned it. Perhaps it is there for weary travelers to sit on as they've reached the pinnacle of their journey. Thanks for sharing!

I think the combination of various elements of sky, grasses and solitary log make this a very nice image, Rob. Nicely composed!

Thanks everybody. I'll have to go back next year when there is more color up there.

I like the big sky, and the balance between the clouds in the UR corner and the log in the LL corner. Colors are nice, too.
