Grass Snake
I have been spending alot of time this summer and autumn photographing reptiles. This young Grass Snake was found by a lake near to my home. It was very small so depth of field was a problem with the macro.

Canon EOS 1D Mk11, 180mm Lens, F11, 1/60, ISO Rating 200.

That's a lovely shot. Although I normally prefer lots of DOF for close ups like this, in this case I think the limited DOF really makes it work. Nice stuff!

Very nice indeed! A great collection of reflections shapes and colours.

This is an excellent capture when you consider the speed they travel through the water!

I'll add another voice of praise to this fine shot. Although I find that droplet of water on the underside of snakes head at the back of the jaw draws my eye.

Has the WOW factor :toast:

Super shot Danny. The isolation of the narrow depth of field really suits this. It has a surreal quality with the smoky softness of the water and reflection :toast: :toast:

Danny, Going for another WPOTY winner next year then?

Absolutely excellent only nit is it ain't mine!

This is amazing - the water must be incredibly still to give such a brilliant reflection. Tristan

A very classy image Danny, the reflection sets it off perfectly for me.

A beauty but agree that drop of water is slightly distracting. Sadly we dont have snakes in Ireland.

Cracking shot Danny, I think the limited DOF is a real benefit - it concentrates the attention where it matters.

Perhaps a square crop? Great as it is though, well done!
