Whenever I go overseas I generally have to leave some kit behind - I travel with dive gear, underwater housings and camera gear - sometimes I even manage to squeeze a few clothes in as well.

I want to start taking a tripod, but due to weight (and space) needs to be lightweight, yet still sturdy enough to hold my D2X. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations please.

I have a little Gitzo Basalt G1198 which is extremely compact and lightweight. It is not very high and I don't use big lenses but for wide landscapes I've found it brilliant as you hardly know you're carrying it. Tristan

Manfrotto 55XPROB would be worth a look as well Gavon - light and extremely versatile, especially with either a 322RC2 or 405/410 head.
I wouldn't get rid of mine for anything

Have a look at http://www.feisol.com/ I got one this year, weighs 1.1Kg with the head! I use it with my D2X, 300mm 2.8 VR and 1.7x TC. I got a CT-3441.

Received a Benro Travel Angel today from www.photopal.co.uk. Its very light and folds down(up?) small. Supports my 1d2 and 300mm IS on a Manfrotto 393 gimbal head very well.
