Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR update
I was out at RMA this morning and was able to learn more about what's happening with the closure. Unfortunately, the refuge will remain closed for ~ 2 months while the Army and Federal Inspectors resolve the contamination issue. The closure affects the public's ability to enjoy this marvelous place and the USFWS' ability to offer programs for visitors.

It is, as I said in my previous post, an unfortuntate consequence of 40 years of chemical production. There is no threat to the wildlife population and the contamination is confined to a small area within the central remediation area.

I will work with my friends at the USFWS to offer photo programs when the closure is lifted. I'll also try to develop a plan to utilize the public blind for quality photo opps. I'll post something once we learn about the plan to re-open the refuge.

This deer image was taken this morning. Apparently, the mule deer don't know or care about the closure!

He looks kinda tubby. Must be something good for deer in those chemical leaks. (Just kidding Dave).

It's that time of year when a Buck's neck swells. Nice almost monochromatic shot!

Great shot! I still need to head up there again.
