More Zion
I am starting to go through the Zion stuff. Processed a ton of film with Brent at Qube and am a little overwhelmed with the volume. The drum scanner is spinning away as I start to look over these.

This one is in the main canyon near the Big Bend stop. Rene & I saw a spotlight clipping over the top of the canyon walls onto this tree. We came literally about 45 seconds too late from seeing a light shaft along with this one. I decided to give it a whack anyways and kinda like this one. What do you think?

The light shaft would have been really cool, but the spotlight alone is very nice. It might be interesting to darken the entire image to draw more attention to the spotlight.

cool spotlight on the tree and the color of the canyon walls is great! I might dial down the highlights on the tree and ground just a bit to even the balance just a little. But I like it overall.

I gasped when I saw this. Wow! Great grab!

Kalin. This is with it dialed down unfortunately. It was pretty hot. I should have thrown the tree edges closer to zone 5.5 not in high 6 like i put it.

Grant,

Good idea. Think I'll try that.

Thanks for the comments!!

I have to agree. The spotlighting is very nice and there is a good amount of detail in the background indicating that it is fall. My excursions in the Big Bend area resulting in me almost stepping on a baby rattler. I didn't stick around long.

Mel,

Intersting you say that. Rene & I crossed overthe river there and were hiking on the other side in our sandals. I was wondering what lurked below as we were crunching through the fields.

Nice one Rich. I really like the colors next to the canyon wall, the light shaft would have been the frosting on the cake. I'm with Kalin on the tree and ground in the spotlight though. I know you said you already toned it down, but it really needs some more. The slope directly behind the tree is also a bit bland/brown; a bit of darkening may help hide it some. The bare tree in the lower left also seems out of place, but it's near impossible to remove it via cropping (probably should have taken a few steps to camera right). But there's always Photoshop's clone tool.

Love the spotlight! It's like God said: "Yo, Rich! Check out this tree! Pretty cool huh?"

The afternoon view of that light streaming into the valley is one of my favorite views in Zion. Excellent capture Richie!
