Do you have any preference for bgcolor tag(for your websites)? And why?
Till now I have designed everything with gray but planning to use white as background color for website.
Thanks for your time.

I used a medium grey with a bit of texture to it. Just enough to be interesting, not enough to be more interesting the images (I hope ).
Pure white I have found to be too bright, distracting and makes images appear darker than they actually are. A pure black makes text tough to read if you are not careful, and depending on the images, can be a bit depressing.
The pure white here is not as much of an issue, this these are largely text pages (with images) rather than image pages. Text works a lot better against a pure white background than against color, mainly due to readability. That is something that needs to be kept in mind when picking a color scheme - it might look cool but be a bear to read, especially under poor lighting conditions or with older eyes.
If you are in doubt, try a couple of combinations on your website and ask us here.

Black and gray because those are power colors. White is too passive for me. I like how pictures look against black as well.

Black and gray for me too, i just love the way images stand out against those colors.
Oh and i find it easier on the eyes tho.

Medium to dark gray for me. Very neutral, and it doesn't make my butt look fat!

Bill...
Black for me. Personally, I think it shows most images better.

Charcoal and medium dark gray backgrounds for me. Text is white or light gray.

My website used to be white but now it's a middle gray. When I was re-designing my website I asked for comments and suggestions and several people felt that the white background was too bright to best showcase my photographs.

Gray or blue.

Most definitely black in order to emphasize the image. However I don't use an abrupt transistion but rather a 0.2 inch gray digital bevel cut border to frame each border. I wrote the html for my hole site. ...David
