Spent a weekend in the New forest in late september. This buck & three of his mates wandered into view while we were sat under a tree taking a breather.
D2x, Sigma 500mm + nikon 1.4x, f4.5 (+ 1 stop), 1/30 sec, iso 400, tripod. Cs2 + neat image.

Nice looking buck Rob
I'd be tempted to tone down the OoF tree in the BG furthest to the right and perhaps the one behind his right antler, and you've cut his virtual feet off, so adding a bit more canvass at the bottom of the frame would be a good idea

Lovely scene and pose but possibly showing the effects of shooting at 1/30th with a big rig but it is that or nothing when there is limited light

Hi all,
Was trying to keep the oof bracken at the bottom to a minimum, & managed to clip the virtual hooves....doh!
Perhaps a bit more usm would help, but i think that it may be more to do with the compression, as the original looks fine. I am always a bit concious of over doing the sharpening.

I do find the foreground a little distracting, but to get any animal in my viewfinder is a great achievement so it think this shot works.
