Lower Antelope Canyon - Critique Please
Rene & I hit Lower Antelope Canyon on Saturday on our way home. I have never taken any shots in there that look any better or worse than the ample shots many of us have taken in there. My goal with this shot was to utilize the wide range between the red highlights and use them as a way to sweep around the 'bush' in the shot. Does it work?

Ebony SV45Te
Nikon 210mm W
Fuji Velvia 50 (the original)

Thanks,

RichieV

Cool that you got back there, twice in one year!
I like the composition and colors. The lines have a nice flow and I like the personality of the bush.
I appreciate the dynamic range and that it's predominantly shades of red. But I think I'd like to see the shadows opened just a tad and the extreme highlights brought down just a little too. I think I'd let the texture in the back walls go black but try to show a little more detail in the sweeps going up-left. I find myself trying to see into those and find the boundary of the image. The highlights on the ledge below the bush and the slope on the right seem just a little too bright/washed out if you have any density there.

Still, those are nits (where's your realcritique.com site?) and I think you executed the concept well!
Another nice one!

Did you hit your head in there? Of course it works - IT KILLS! The texture alone, with the combo of stone and wood carries the image. I love the everything about this image and would like to also see a B&W version.

It works BIG time!

Love it, Richie. Though I think I'd play with dialing down the highlights a touch if it were mine to play with.

What a difference a monitor makes. Looking at this again at home, on a calibrated monitor, it's totally different! Highlights are toned down and have detail and I can see shadow detail to the corner. Guess I'll have to stop evaluating images at work - sorry.

Beautimous!

Thanks for the comments. So hard to put pictures up since we all know that others look at images on a wide array on displays. My notebook display for work is really rough on everything and I am glad I get to use it sparingly.
