Anyone heading down to Bosque del Apache NWR/Socorro this coming week? Word has it that there are already several thousand cranes there, and more arriving everyday.
I've only been down there once before, and that was in October, so no cranes then. This year I'm better prepared...I hope.
Anyways, if you go down there, I hope to run into you. I'll have my NPN hat on.

Be advised that this coming weekend is the Festival of Cranes in the Bosque and Socorro. There will probably be LOTS of people around. But fields will only have been cut back a short way from the roads, so the birds will be fairly close.
I will be helping with a workshop, and will be around Tuesday thru Thursday in the Visitors Center area. Fri & Sat I'll be wandering around, I will probably have a NANPA vest on with an NPN patch.
According to the Volunteer group "The Friends of the Bosque Del Apache" The bird count as of last week was as follows
Total Ducks 33706; Total Canada Geese 90; Total Light Geese 22620;
Total Sandhill Cranes 2676; American Coot 446; Marsh and Water Birds 36;
Shorebirds 3; Gulls and Terns 4; Hawks and Owls 22

Thanks Don...I'll try to look you up. We purposefully planned our trip for the Festival of Cranes (so my wife would have something to do). Looking forward to some good pics.
