One early morning while we were out shooting by the riverside in Borneo early this year, we came across a small fishing boat with these very large freshwater shrimps, caught only a few hours ago. We bought some to take back. They were kept fresh in a small glass fronted container with some water from the river at base camp. I grabbed a few shots through the glass with a flash. The yellow/brown background is the colour of the muddy river water.
These guys can grow up to nearly a foot (yes, no joke) although ours were merely half that size. You can see why the locals called them 'Udang Gala', or 'giant prawn'. They were stir-fried with some vegetable oil and very lightly seasoned - it was all that was needed

Hi Des,
Interesting story and shot. Never knew a Prawn grew that big . That would make one hell of a prawn cocktail.
Thanks for sharing

That's an amazing image - should be a (c) in the title though The eye is amazing, and the colours superb.

Cool macro image Des - amazingly intricate structures, even if it is a somewhat shockingly huge prawn

Weird looking things Des, especially in close-up
The world of insects and crustations etc are fasinating, when we are able to see such detail {almost scarey }.
Nicely taken

Colour of the eye is wonderful and blue head goes nicely with it. I would be tempted to move its tentacle, because as presented it's a bit of distraction.
