Bittern
Hi All,

Had a fantastic visit to Leighton Moss this weekend.

Great views of the Starling roost, and this close encounter with a Bittern.

Nice, looks like you had a good view, i think the bittern needs some more sharpening though?

Paul,

Thanks for your comment about the sharpening, I agree I think another round of USM is in order....

Once you've sharpened at full resolution do you re sharpen at the 'web' size as well?

I do yes, many of my images where dynamic sized by my site, but people said they looked soft so i now make 720px versions to post here which i then no a light, light, fine in focal blade.

Hello Rob

Took some time off then mate, good to see great shot.

I save my image to 720px then add about 3 rounds of USM set to 30 - 0.3 - 0.

Hope that helps.

Speak to you soon.

Danny

Ahhh, repost easier on the eyes - thought I needed new glasses there for a moment Rob

Nice shot of a real elusive beastie - think I might have tried a landscape crop though if there's enough original in the frame, but that's just me - nice image :toast: :toast:

Agree with the above Rob................repost is more like it!!!!!!!!!!!

In my book, any shot of a bittern is a good shot, but this really is a fine shot indeed :toast: :toast:

Fine repost Rob, Leighton can certainly deliver the bitterns. Regarding sharpening I tend to do it in stages. When I process the raw file in Lightroom I use the default setting (which is quite low), if the image needs to go into CS3 it may get a further sharpen at the final print size, if I resize for the web then I do a further sharpen 100,0.2,0 run a few times on a new layer and then I adjust the opacity to bring down the sharpness to just how I want it.
