Grabbed this last year when the pup rolled over and looked at me. Had to crop from landscape as there was no time to switch positions on my tripod. Pity about the sand on the pup but I like it all the same and it has made a fine A3 print which generates a lot of "aaaahs" from visitors to our house. The pup was moulting, hence the white hairs on the sand in the foreground. A few distracting dark bits of seaweed or something in the BG have been cloned out.
Canon 20D, 300f4, ISO 200, 1/200 @ f13. Mid- December 2006 in fairly low, yellow light.

Erm "Does my bum look big in this?"
"Can't a pup get some sleep around here?"
"Hey Greenie give us a cuddle!"
"Darn, I'm all arms and no legs!"
"It was this big!"
Great shot Jim, will it be on country file next year?

Hi Jim,
What a wonderfully 'interactive' shot - this should make you some money! I know everybody sees to go to Donna Nook for these but there is also a grey seal colony between Horsey and Winterton on the Norfolk coast which is brilliant to photograph.
All best,
Dave

Love this Jim - think a part built sand castle in the background would add to the fun

excellent image. fun or not i think it's great. i'm kind of getting the idea with WPOTY that there needs to be some kind of humanisation in the image, either in pose, or behaviour, or from symetry and shape. this image might do well, did you enter it?
